THE KICKING CAMARADERIE
Wednesday, March 14, 2012

This edition of Generation NEXT highlights Markus Collins, a kicker for Allentown High School, who attended one of Sports International's Kicking, Punting, and Long Snapper Camps just last year.

This past football season, Collins' high school made a major achievement of making their way to the New Jersey State Tournament for the first time in 35 years. As for Collins, he completed four out of seven field goals, including a 47 yarder that was the second farthest kick in New Jersey. He also made twelve kickoffs into the end zone and made 90 percent of his extra points.

Markus' effort, which earned him Second Team All-Conference, was accredited to the technical side of kicking that the coaches at S.I. Kicking Camp provided, including Mike Bernard, who had taken time to help Markus with his technique.

"[Camp] helped in the technical part of game. I was taught about how to relax and attack the ball. Plus, I went through a routine to make sure I am ready for the kick," says Collins.

As well as the coaches, Markus also gives credit for his skill to other kickers, some of which he had made friends with from camp even though they were mostly from Pennsylvania.

"You learn something new everywhere that there are good kickers.  I've been working with lots of good kickers for four years and I've had a great experience most places," Collin explains. "Kickers are a great group to be around because of how they try to help each other."

This camaraderie among the kickers was something Markus highlighted as a memorable experience at camp.

"My favorite part of camp was the hard work trying to learn something new and really learning something new from the coaches and kickers. The [campus] was beautiful and it was just a great day with really good guys," said Collins.

Markus intends to be back at the camp next year too in hopes to perfect his skills, so that he may potentially be recruited to play college football. To him, the Sports International Kicking, Punting, and Long Snapper Camp was "a great day with a lot of training and good coaching for kickers."

1 and 2 Day Kicking, Punting, and Long Snapper Camps are located at locations all over the country. Click here for more information.
